Harry Thomas Charles Bullock was born in Wandsworth in 1899. By the time Harry was born his father, Henry, already had four children. The two eldest children, Alfred aged 14 and Edith Clara aged 11, were by his first wife Clara Margaret (nee Hyde) whom he married on 27th April 1884 in Islington. After the death of Clara, Henry married Amy (Nee Wardle) and three further children were born: Florence in 1896, Ernest in 1898 and Harry in 1899.

In the census of 1901 Henry aged 38 listed as a Scientific Instrument maker and second wife Amy aged 28 were living with their five children in Willesden. Harry Thomas Charles was now aged two, Ernest 3, Florence 5, Edith 13 and Alfred who was working as a general labourer aged 16.

In September 1902 Harry’s half brother Alfred joined the Royal Navy for twelve years and ended serving on various ships right up to 1919.

By 1911 the family had increased in size with a further 3 children being born: Winifred in 1903 and twins Albert and Gladys born in 1905. The family were now living at 130 Robinson Road, Colliers Wood with their seven children. The two eldest children Edith aged 23 and Florence aged 15 were both working as Packers and sorters at a Laundry whilst Ernest was working as an Errand Boy. Harry 12, Winifred 8 and twins Albert and Gladys aged six were all at school. Their father Henry was listed as a Barometer and Thermometer maker.

Harry was aged 15 when war broke out. He enlisted in Wimbledon and joined the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment 1st Battalion as soon as he was old enough. He died of wounds while a prisoner of war on 8th November 1918 aged 19 and is “Remembered with Honour” in Belin South West Cemetery. He is also mentioned on a Memorial at Christ Church, Colliers Wood.
