Sidney was born on 22 February 1891 in St Pancras and baptised in St James Bloomsbury on 13 March 1891. His father Alfred was a policeman and he and his wife Mary Ann had four other children, Alfred, Robert, Daisy and Arthur.
By 1901 they were living at 45 Bestborough Street, St Pancras but later moved to 12 Finborough Road, Tooting.
Sidney joined the 22nd Battalion of the London Regiment, military number 683092 and at the time of his death on 1 October 1917 he was a Lance Corporal.
Sidney died of wounds and is buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, Plot VB 43.
