Joseph Sidney North who was born in the last quarter of 1879 to Henry Powell Brooks and his wife Alice Brooks. By profession Henry was employed as an oil and colourman

Joseph was baptized at St Peter’s church in Bayswater, Middlesex on January 11th 1880. Baptismal records reveal that the Brooks family were residing at 6 Archer Street in Bayswater.

The 1901 Census reveals that Henry Brooks was now an employer in the oil merchant trade. The Brooks family now resided at 61 North Lodge in Morden, Surrey. Twenty one year old Joseph was employed at home as a groom or horse foreman.

Joseph married Jessie McClean in the second quarter of 1904 at Croydon.

According to the 1911 Census, Joseph was self-employed as a painter and carpenter. Jessie and Joseph had now been married for 7 years and the couple had 2 sons, Joseph Alexander; age 6 years and Leslie Thomas who was 3 years old. The Brooks family now resided at 8 Stanley Road in Morden.

Joseph Sidney service record is not available through Ancestry; he enlisted as a private in Wimbledon in The Buffs East Kent Regiment, 6th Battalion and died of his wounds on 5th March 1917 in France
