Allotments on Wimbledon Common
Additional Information
Behind the wartime allotments you can see the cottages of West Place, including the Beulah Laundry on the right.
Allotments were created on several parks and open spaces in the area, as well as all over the country, to grow fresh vegetables that would be available for families without using ration coupons.
A number of local women worked at the Beulah Laundry in a purpose built washhouse, with an upstairs ironing room.
