Heritage Map & Trail

From their research, our project team have devised a range of Merton at War heritage map resources. All of these resources highlight the local sites with First World War associations, enabling you to explore different parts of the borough and learn about life on the Home Front 100 years ago.

The main focus was to produce the A2 size, hard-copy Merton at War map encompassing all of the borough and which was launched during Remembrance Week 2015. Prior to this, the team had produced a series of three A4 size, Carved in Stone Mini-Maps; one for Merton & Morden, Mitcham and Wimbledon. Copies of both the Merton at War map and the Mini-Maps are available from a range of local heritage sites, Merton libraries and the Local Studies Centre in Morden Library.

Finally, the project team have partnered with izi.Travel to recreate these hard-copy maps into on-line versions. By downloading the free izi.Travel app onto your digital device (via the Mac Store or Google Play,) users can then freely download the Carved in Stone tours and enjoy a multi-media guided experience. Over the Summer of 2016 the project team will be adding all three of the Mini-Maps onto the izi.Travel app, after which the Merton at War map will be made available as well.
