Additional Information
Alexander was born in Weymouth, Dorset in 1886. He was the son of Matthew Hallett and his wife Euphemia.
Matthew Hallett had an inauspicious start in life. In 1865, aged just 16, he was jailed for stealing two ducks. At that time his occupation was listed as blacksmith, but when he married in 1876, he was described as a soldier.
Alexander Hallett followed in his father’s military footsteps, joining the Scots guards. He fought through and survived the First World War, before finally being discharged with pulmonary tuberculosis in April 1919. He died in Epsom in August of that year and was buried in Morden Cemetery.
