Alfred, an only child, was born in West Shefford, Berkshire (north of Hungerford) in 1886 and lived with his father, Richard, a coachman, and his mother, Susan.
In 1891 the family lived in High Street, Wargrave, Berkshire, midway between Maidenhead and Reading. By 1901 the family were living at Inverlodden, Ferry Street, Wargrave and Alfred’s father was now working as a gardener and Alfred was working as a page (Domestic).
When the 1911 census was taken Alfred’s father had died and Alfred was a student at an Academy of Music. He was still living with his mother.
On the 23rd April 1914 Alfred married Beatrice Emily Sprules at the Parish Church, Acton Middlesex. The marriage certificate showed Alfred to be a professional singer.
Alfred enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps and became an Air Mechanic 3rd Class in the No.1 Stores Depot at Kidbrooke, South-east London.
Alfred died on 1st November 1917 at 139 Brixton Hill, Brixton of pneumonia and was laid to rest in Streatham Park Cemetery.
His mother, Susan, received £2-15-2 from money due to Alfred and after the war his wife Beatrice received £4 War Gratuity.
Alfred is remembered on the Memorial at Streatham Park Cemetery.
