Frederick was born on 19 November 1896 to Francis John Clancey (1869-1907) and Martha and baptised on 13 December 1896. They had five other children, Cecilia, William, Frederick, Ethel and Stanley.
Frederick started at Springfield School in Lambeth on 9 July 1900 and at that time they were living at 13 Springfield Road.
After his father’s death his mother married Albert Tappenden and they had a child, Dorothy, in 1910. They lived at 32 Clifton Park Road in Raynes Park.
After an early career as an errand boy, Fred joined the Border Regiment having enlisted at Kingston upon Thames. He was killed in Flanders on 17 September 1917.
