Bertie Juster was born on 24 March 1895 to James, a carpenter, and Sarah. He had a twin, Harry, and they had 7 brothers and sisters - William, George, Louisa (who died aged only 12), Ada, Emma, May and Frederick. They lived at 140 Effra Road, Wimbledon in 1901 but by 1911 they had moved to 10 Granville Road, Wimbledon. Bertie attended Rutlish School and became an errand boy and then a clerk when he left.
The twins had joined up together in Wimbledon. The enlistment records show that Bertie was 5ft 5.5ins tall with a 35.5inch chest and weighed 116 lbs and they give his age as 19 years and 9months - a month younger than his twin!. They did their training at Chatham before being sent to France. Bertie was killed in October 1915 and he is buried in the St Sever Cemetery in Rouen.
