Edward Kearsey was the son of a house painter, Edward Cornelius Kearsey and a drapery assistant, Agnes Louisa (known as Louisa). He was born in Wimbledon on 12 April 1888. He had two older sisters, Elizabeth and Agnes and two years after his birth a brother Henry was born. The family lived in Nursery Road, later moving to 8 Latimer Road. He went to Merton Church of England School in 1891 and when he left school he became a Gentleman’s Outfitter.
Edward enlisted in New Court, Middlesex and joined the 1st Buckingham and Oxfordshire Light Infantry as a Private. He was sent to the Somme where he died on 23 August 1916.
He is buried at the Mill Road Cemetery and commemorated in Wimbledon Methodist Church.
