Archibald was born in Glamorgan on 19 November 1886.
The Navy Register of a Seaman’s Service tells us that at the age of 18 he was 5ft 6ins tall with brown hair and grey eyes. He had joined the Navy on 17 November 1904 and had served on a variety of ships before and throughout the war.
He survived WW1 but died in Epsom on 30 June 1919 and is buried in Morden Cemetery.
