Additional Information
Born in Deptford, London c. 1888, William was the son of William and Marion Newman.
Regrettably there are few records of William’s war service, however in October 1918 he was a gunner in the 315th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. This originated as the 2/1st Northumberland Brigade Royal Field Artillery and served as part of the Divisional Artillery to the 63rd Royal Naval Division from May 1916 to February 1917. Thereafter it became an Army Brigade.
William died at home of pneumonia on 30 October 1918, aged 30. He was buried at Gap Road Cemetery in Wimbledon (Plot M Row B). Records show that his parents were then living at Albemarle Street, Piccadilly in London.
