Charles was born on the 11 January, 1895 to Charles Alfred and Gertrude Maud Tuckey. He was baptised on the 14 March at St Saviour, Paddington, even though his parents were living in East Moseley at the time. The family later moved to Teddington, and then Thames Ditton, where they resided in 1911. Charles’s father was a wine merchant, and his mother died when he was still a child, at some point between 1901 and 1911. He was an only child.

Charles was educated at Wykeham House School in Worthing, and attended King’s College School from 1907-1911. He lived at 3 Mincing Lane in London prior to enlisting.

He was commissioned in the Royal Marines in 1913, promoted to 2nd Lieutenant within the year, and promoted to Lieutenant in September 1914. He was Lieutenant on the Battleship Erin beginning in January 1917, and served at Antwerp and Gallipoli.
He died during the Zeebrugge raid, along with at least 226 other men. He left £231 to his father.
