Additional Information

Albert was born in Walworth on the 6th of August, 1894, to Edward and Rose James. He appears to have been an only child. His father worked as an engineer and tool maker, and the family lived at 6 Bendon Valley in Wandsworth.

Albert was 5’2” with brown hair, blue eyes, and a “fresh” complexion. He enlisted in the Navy on the 15th of October, 1914 and served on several ships, including the Pembroke II and the Bombadier, before moving to the Bacchante, where he finished out the war.

He married Edith Agatha Selwood on the 19th of January, 1919, at St. John the Evangelist, Brixton. She was a shop assistant, and the couple lived at 11 Canterbury Mews, with Albert’s parents. Unfortunately, Albert contracted influenza and pneumonia only two months into their marriage, and died at the Royal Naval Hospital in Chatham.
