Percy was born in Lambeth in the summer of 1899, the son of Walter Whicher and Grace Maria Jenkins. His father was a glass embosser and sign writer. Percy was the oldest child, and had a younger sister Dorothy, and a younger brother John. The family lived at 77 Heyford Avenue in Lambeth, sharing a house with two other families, before moving to their own three room house at 1 Tynemouth Road in Mitcham.
Percy entered active service on the 3rd of August, 1918, and served for less than a month before being killed in action in France during the Second Battle of the Somme.
He is buried in the Suzanne Military Cemetery, Somme, France. His grave has the inscription "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", chosen by his parents.
