Additional Information
Born on the 24th of April, 1898, Charles was baptised at Godalming Parish Church on the 26th of June. He was the son of Henri Ainne and Miriam Jane “Jenny” Keim (nee Crocker); his father was from Switzerland, and worked as a gardener in Godalming before moving to Mitcham and becoming a greengrocer. His mother and older sister also assisted in the business. Their shop was located on London Road, between Mitcham Park and Tramway Path, but the family lived in an eight room house at 1 Baron Place, along with Charles’s maternal grandfather Thomas Crocker, who was a retired engine driver.
Charles was a middle child and the only son, with older sister Mary Maguerite and younger sister Miriam Elizabeth.
He enlisted in Wimbledon, and died of wounds sustained somewhere in Flanders.
