Clifford Alexander who was born during the third quarter of 1887 was the fourth child of Sebastian and Louisa Blazdell.
The 1891 Census reveals that 42 year old Sebastian who was employed as a pianoforte tuner and 41 year old Louisa lived with their 4 children at No 1 Ravensbury Villas in Mitcham Surrey.
The 1901 Census reveals that the Blazdell family still lived in Mitcham
The 1911 census reveals that the Sebastian and Louisa had been married for 36 years with Louisa giving birth to 5 live children and the family had lost one child in infancy. The family were now living at 69 Robinson Road in Tooting with only Jessie Louisa, the eldest daughter who was employed as a military embroideress living at home with her parents.
The 1913 passenger list reveals that 26 year old Clifford Alexander had embarked at Southampton on the ‘Kleist’ bound for Genoa. The passenger list reveals that his occupation is listed as that of (piano) tuner.
The incoming passenger list of the SS Katori-Maru reveals that 27 year old Clifford Alexander returned to London on 14th 0ctober 1914 from Singapore where he had been working as a planter.
Clifford Alexander’s service record is not available but presumably this was when he enlisted at Croydon in 0ctober 1914 The Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment and he was killed in action in Flanders France on the 8th 0ctober 1915. He has been commemorated at the Loos Memorial
