Hubert William Evans was the fourth and youngest child of William George and Maria Evans. He was born in the last quarter of 1897 in Camberwell, London. His father George William was employed as a Civil Servant in the Customs and Excise Department of the Inland Revenue.
The 1911 Census reveals that William George and Maria had been married for 28 years with four of their five children and were residing at Trebarwith, Streatham Lane in Streatham Road, in Mitcham. Thirteen year old Hubert William was described as being a schoolboy.
Hubert William’s service record is not available, he enlisted in the Buffs, East Kent Regiment 6th Bn and he died of wounds near Monchy. He is buried Etaples Military Cemetery.
