Francis was born towards the end of 1898 and his birth was registered in Kingston. His father, Henry Frederick Stanton, was born in Westminster and worked as a builder’s clerk. His mother was Anne Kate Stanton.
Francis has two older brothers, Ignatius Henry who was born in 1883 and Aloysius who was born in 1886. They all lived in Wimbledon at 11 Courthope Villas and Francis attended Rutlish School from 1910 to 1914.
Francis joined the Queen’s Westminsters in 1915 aged only 16. He obtained his commission in the 5th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1917. He finally went to the front just a fortnight before his death and was killed in action at the Battle of Canal du Nord on 27 September 1918. He is buried in the Hermes Hill Cemetery and commemorated in Rutlish School.
