William Charles Wallace was born in Peckham in 1894 to Charles Alfred and Fanny Wallace. His father worked as a surveyor. William was the youngest of three, with older sister Kate Ethel, and brother Harold Harvey. At the time of the 1901 census, the family were living in Thames Ditton, but they moved to 91 South Park Road in Wimbledon by 1911.
Before entering the Army, William attended Rutlish School, then worked as a clerk to an accountant.
He was killed near Arras in 1918.
