Additional Information
Amelia, William and Frederick Rolfe were born and grew up in Wimbledon. Their parents were Thomas, a postman, and Agnes (nee Farmer) and in 1901 they were living at 34 Bertram Cottages. They later moved to 105 Hart field Road and by the 1911 census William, who would have been 20 by then, was no longer living in the family home. Thomas and Alice later moved to Steyning in Sussex.
On leaving school, Frederick became a printer’s apprentice.
His name appears on the Roll of Honour of the Fort Gary Horse at their Regimental HQ in Winnipeg Canada. See www.fortgaryhorse.ca website. Check out the Unit History 1914-1919 for a description of the actions at Moreuil Wood during which he was apparently wounded fatally, according to his date of death.
This Canadian unit, which came across to the UK in 1914. It is possible that Frederick joined as a reinforcement once the unit had arrived in England.
