Additional Information
Frederick was born in Middleton Norfolk. He lived with his uncle George Alexander Duff, a removal contractor, in Wimbledon, together with his brother Harry and sister Annie. (1911 Census). He and his brother appear to have joined his uncle’s business, while Annie worked in domestic service. Army pension records indicate that Annie received Frederick’s effects and War Gratuity.
Bandsmen traditionally had additional duties as stretcher bearers in combat.
