Harold was born on the Isle of Wight on 18 March 1889 and grew up there, living with his mother Eleanor and older brothers Reginald, Douglas and Percy, older sisters Eleanor and Beatrice and younger brother Cecil. His Father, Edward George Saunders died before Harold had reached his 12th birthday.
By 1911 Harold, together with his mother, sisters Eleanor and Beatrice and brother Cecil were living in the home of his eldest brother, Reginald, at 27 St George’s Road, Wimbledon. Harold was now employed as a Stock Jobber Clerk. Harold’s mother later moved to 55 Alexandra Road, Wimbledon.
He joined the 1st/5th Battalion of the London Regiment, The London Rifle Brigade and was killed in action, aged 27 on 16 August 1917. It is likely that he was part of the Battle for Langemark at the 3rd Battle for Ypres when he died.
