Leslie was born on the 18 July, 1899, to William and Ada Frances Theed, and baptised on the 22 October at Holy Trinity Church, Wimbledon. At the time, the family was living at 78 Dundonald Road, but they soon moved to a six room house at 37 Fairlawn Road, where they would remain through the 1910s. Leslie was a middle child, with an older brother, Arthur, who became a banker’s clerk, and a younger sister Ursula. His father worked as a bank messenger for the Bank of England, though he had retired by 1911.
Leslie joined the Royal West Surreys, and was killed in action in France when he was only 18 years old.
