Thomas Ernest Came was the son of Thomas Edward Came and Mary Emma (nee Carpenter) who had married in Hendon on 1st December 1895. After marrying, the couple set up home alongside Thomas’s parents and siblings at 2 Pelham Road Wimbledon.

By the time Thomas (jnr) was born in 1900 the couple already had two daughters Alice and Edith. Thomas’s father, grandfather and other male members of the extended family all worked as plasterers.

By 1911 Thomas (jnr) had three further siblings: Frank, Alfred and Nellie. The family were now living at 56 Fortescue Road, Merton, a house with 4 rooms.

When war broke out Thomas was aged 14 and now living at number 60 Fortescue Road, Colliers Wood. Records show he enlisted as a Private with the East Surrey Regiment with a service number of 13446.

Thomas was killed in Action on 29th June 1917. Records state his age at death as being 20, but he could only have been aged 17.

Thomas is remembered at Fins New British Cemetery, Sorel-le –Grand in the Somme Region of France and at Christ Church, Colliers Wood.
