Oscar was born c. 1877 to Walter and Mary Collins. He and his brother Percy were baptised on 12 November 1884 at the Church of the Ascension, Balham Hill. Oscar’s father was a greengrocer and in addition to Percy, Oscar had 5 brothers and two sisters.
He grew up in Dulwich and married Edith Louisa Greed in St Luke’s Church, West Norwood on 14 September 1898. They settled in Spence Road, Herne Hill and had three children Violet born 1900, Hilda born 1901 and Ivy who was born in 1902. Oscar was a taxidermist.
By 1911 they had moved to 214 High Street Colliers Wood.
Oscar joined the Royal Engineers, service number 113662, in September 1916 and went into the Pigeon Service where he was soon promoted to Sergeant.
He was staying in Brighton when he died and was buried in Mitcham Burial Ground, Church Road Plot XII.64
