Walter was baptised on 6 September 1891 at All Saints Church, Mile End. His father, Henry, was a cab driver and he lived with him, his mother Anna and older brother John at 198 Lion Street, Bethnal Green according to the 1901 census.
By 1911 the family had moved to 98 Dover Buildings, Old Kent Road and Walter was a sorter for the GPO (General Post Office).
He enlisted in the 1st Battalion, Hampshire Regiment in March 1915 and obtained a commission on 27 November 1917.
Walter was killed on 12 July 1918. He was still single and his parents had moved to 77 Marlborough Road, Merton by this time. He is buried at Pernes, Department du Pas de Calais and commemorated in Christ Church, Colliers Wood
