Cecil was born in 1895 in Islington. His parents were James and Catherine.
His parents lived in Merton at 51 Warren Road and Cecil attended Rutlish School.
He enlisted in the 1st Battalion Queen’s (Royal West Sussex) Regiment, service number L10792. According to the Regiment’s War Diaries the Battalion was guarding Quincey Trench in July 1915 and had been hit by spasmodic shellfire for several days whilst awaiting relief by the Oxford Regiment. A number of men were injured and Cecil was one who died of wounds on 29 July 1915.
He is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery.
