Frederick was born in Tooting in 1892. His parents, William Walter and Emily Mary, had four other children who were living with them at 7 Holland Street, Lambeth, at the time of the 1901 census. They were Walter, born 1883, Richard born 1882, Edward born 1886 and Herbert born 1887 plus William’s stepson William who was 25 years old.
Frederick was very young when he signed up to the Royal Scots Fusiliers and was shown on a Military listing in South Africa for the 1911 census.
Frederick was a Private in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Scots Guards and died on 24 October 1914 in West Flanders just 3 weeks after being sent to France. He is buried at Heuvelland in Belgium.
