John was born on 24 June 1889 in Shepherds Bush and baptised at St Saviour’s Church on 9 August 1889. His family were living at 109 Becklas Road in Shepherds Bush at that time and his father was a labourer.
By 1901 they had moved to 33 Wandle Road, South Wimbledon where he lived with his father Edwin and mother Esther, siblings James aged 25, William aged 17, Benjamin, 14, and Arthur, 10 plus a lodger.
Jon enlisted in Birmingham and joined the 1st 5th Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was killed on 27 August 1917 and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission shows his next of kin as his brother Benjamin of 15 Courtney Road, Colliers Wood
