Tom Henry Priestley was born in the early part of 1894 in Wimbledon, the eldest child of Tom Richard Priestly and his wife Elizabeth Mildred nee Cunningham.
Tom Snr and Elizabeth went on to have a further six children, Rose, Cecil, Lilian, Dorothy, Edward and Henry and at the 1911 census they were all living in a 5 room house at 65 Bronson Road, Merton. Tom Snr was a carpenter and Tom Henry had joined a firm of Solicitors as a Clerk.
Tom Henry enlisted in the Royal Engineers as Driver number 38316.
He died in hospital on 20 March 1918 and is buried at St Pol Communal Cemetery, St Pol-sur-Ternoise. His mother received his war gratuity of £20 10s and by then was living at 13 Marlborough Road, Merton
