George Collings was born on 30 June 1868 to Alfred and Anne Collings at 54 Loddiges Road, Clerkenwell in what was described as Middlesex but is now part of St. John Hackney.
The 1881 census describes George as an apprentice gas fitter at the age of 15 years and still living in Hackney with his parents, older brother also called Alfred who was 23 years old and his sister Annie, aged 18 years old.
George Collings had married Rosabelle Eva Bethel, date of birth, 4th 0ctober 1878. Rosabelle was the youngest daughter of 80 year old George Bethel, who was born in 1821 and his wife 53 year old Eliza, who was born in 1848. The Bethels had 2 daughters, Daisy, born in 1877 and the youngest Rosabelle in 1879 at Portsea, in Hampshire.
Rose or Rosabelle, married George Collings in 1902 at Gosport in Hampshire, when she was 22 years old. The couple had one son Lionel born a year later in 1903. The 1911 Census reveals that Rose was a dressmaker. The family lived at 3 0ak Villas, Victoria Road, Farnborough, Hants. Colour Sergeant George Collings was based at Westminster, London.
At the time of his death, George Collings left an estate of £326-8-6d to Reginald Richmond a Licensed Victualler.
Rose Collings died at the age of 93 years in March 1972 in Portsmouth, Hampshire.
