Additional Information

Son of Ernest and Rachel Caroline Davies, of 40, Haydon's Rd., Wimbledon, London. He was born on September 27, 1891, and baptized on December 27, 1893, along with two of his siblings, at Holy Trinity and St. Peter, Wimbledon. The family lived at 56 Kingston Road, and Ernest worked as a carman
.
By 1901, the family had moved to 9 Pincott Road, and Ernest was working as a fishmonger’s assistant. The 1911 Census reveals that Ernest and Caroline had been married for 22 years and that the family were living in a five room house at 40 Haydon’s Road, and George was working as a grocer’s assistant (his father still hadn’t been promoted from assistant fishmonger, and now his younger brother worked as a fishmonger’s assistant also). George had six siblings; older sister Nellie, and Ernest, Alice, Henry, Arthur, and Ethel, who were all younger.

He was working as a motor driver at the time of his enlistment on June 14, 1915, he was 23 years and 10 months old at the time. He was 5’7” and 140 lbs. He died well into his third year of service from broncho-pneumonia, while in hospital in France.
