Additional Information
Walter was born in the spring of 1893 to Joseph Unwin, a schoolmaster and his wife Christina Annie Unwin. He was born in Chiswick but in the late 1890s he and his parents and his older sister Marguerite moved to 42 Gap Road Wimbledon where he grew up. He was still living at home at the time of the 1911 census and by then had left school and become a Junior Clerk.
He enlisted in Chelsea and joined the 18th Battalion of the London Regiment of the London Irish Rifles, service number 2196.
He was killed on 30 April 1915 in France and was buried in the Post Office Rifles Cemetery, Festubert and remembered in the United Apostolic Church in Wimbledon
