John Peddie was born in Home Street, Marylebone on 12 March 1893. His parents were Malcolm and Emily (nee Ash) and they lived, together with his younger siblings Arthur, Maud, George and Eleanor in Kensington before moving to 4 Caroline Road, Wimbledon by 1911.
John became a carpet fitter when he left school but he enlisted shortly after the outbreak of war and joined the Royal Garrison Artillery.
He was killed on 2 September 1915 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate in Ypres panel 9 and at St Saviour’ Church.
