Charles Henry was the second son of Charles and Jane Lambert Clark. He was born in Battersea, Surrey which is now part of South London in 1895. The Clark family, according to the 1901 Census, resided at 35 Rolls Place in Battersea, with their 5 children.
The 1911 census reveals that the Clark family now resided at Morden House in Morden, Surrey with their 3 children, also with Ellen Annie Pickett, Jane’s niece who was employed as a domestic help to the Clark family.
At the time of the 1911 Census, Charles and Jane had been married for a total of 27 years, the couple had a total of nine children, and five children had died in early childhood. The couple’s son 17 year old Charles was now employed as milk carrier

Charles Henry’s service record is not available through Ancestry, although he is known to have enlisted in Wimbledon Surrey as a Private in the Duke of Cambridge’s 0wn Middlesex Regiment, 17Bn and was killed in action on the 13th November 1916. He is remembered at Serre Road Cemetery No 2 and also commemorated at St. Lawrence’s Church, Morden, where his name appears on one of the panels in the Lychgate which serves as the parish war memorial.
