Geoffrey, born Oct 1894 in India, was one of four children of Herbert Batty and Minnie Horn Watson, married 1873 Poona, India;
father was a judge in Indian Civil Service. Educated Marlborough School, where he joined OTC, and Christ’s College Cambridge.
Joined regiment 14 Sep 1914 whilst at university, caught pneumonia; joined battalion in BEF Sep 1915; was wounded in attack on Thiepval in which all officers in his company were killed or wounded; died of his wounds
. On retirement his parents moved to Devon (1911), then Wimbledon but, by the date of Geoffrey’s death (1916), family had moved to Hampstead where his father died (1923). Commemorated in ABG on father’s grave (H076), but not found on Church Row War Memorial or in Parish magazine. [Family in Hampstead until at least 1923]
