Frank Ward was the youngest child of Alfred Joseph Ward and Emma Downing. His parents had married on 12th July 1874. Frank was baptised on the 15th January 1893 at St Paul’s church in East Molsey.
His father, Alfred was a traveller in the coal trade according to the 1911 census. The couple went on to have a total of 12 children and had been married for 36 years and resided at 86 Cecil Road in Wimbledon.
The 1911 Census reveals that 18 year old Frank was a clerk employed by the County Court.
Frank enlisted in Wimbledon, rising to the rank of sergeant in the 1st City of London, Royal Fusiliers and was killed in action on the 23rd March 1918 in France. He is commemorated at the Arras Memorial.
