Albert was born in Portsmouth to Charles and Elizabeth Cousens.
At the 1911 census the family were living at The Cottage, Woodcote Park, Park Hill Road, Wallington. Albert had an older brother Gordon, younger brother Edmund and a sister Hilda. They later moved to 10 Acacia Road, Mitcham.
Albert joined the Royal Sussex Regiment in the Labour Corps.
Little is known about his military career but he died in the Holborn Military Hospital, Western Road, Mitcham on 27 February 1919 and he is buried in the St Peter and Paul Graveyard in Church Road.
