Herbert Harbour who was born on the 14th July 1876 in East Harling, Norfolk was the fifth child of James and Louisa. Herbert was baptized on the 20th August 1876 at his local Parish Church in East Harling. His father James was employed as a groom and gardener according to Census records.

The 1881 Census records reveal that James and Louisa resided with their seven children at number 118 West Harling Court. At number 119, resided James ‘s father family in East Harling.

The 1891 Census, reveal that Charles and Louisa now resided with their 9 children at number 50 Lower Tasburgh, in Norfolk. Fourteen-year-old Herbert was now employed as an errand boy.

The 1901 Census reveals that 23-year-old Herbert now resided at number 3 Sussex Square in Paddington where he was employed as a footman to Norman Landall a general merchant. Norman Landall’s father Mark Wilks Collet was a former Bank of England director. Norman Landall also employed 22-year-old Mary Ann Hyde, a housemaid, it was while employed by Norman Landall that Herbert met and married Mary Ann on the 25th February 1905 at The Emmanuel Parish Church in Paddington.

According to the 1911 Census, 32-year-old Mary Ann and 34-year-old Herbert now resided at 3c Kingswood Road in Fulham, the couple had been married for 6 years but were childless. Herbert was employed as a lift porter at Mansion Flats.

Herbert enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps on the 11th December 1915, his service records reveals that he was 5 feet and 3 ½ inches tall he weighed only 120 lbs. His medical records reveal that he was a chronic bronchitic with emphysema present on both sides of his chest and that he had a left inguinal hernia and needed to wear a truss. Although, he had good eye sight, his teeth were very bad. Herbert was transferred to the 2nd London Sanitary Company RAMC on the 3rd September 1917.

0n the 15th January 1919, Herbert developed bronchitis and died on the 31st January 1919 from heart failure at Holborn Military Hospital in Western Road, Mitcham. Herbert was buried at Mitcham burial ground.

Mary Ann was awarded a plaque and scroll on the 19th February 1920 and given a separation allowance of 16 shillings on the 3rd August 1919.
