John Charles was the third son of William and Sara Ann Marshall. His 21-year-old father William who was born in Holloway, married Sara Ann Spinks, a 17-year-old spinster at the parish church of St Mary in Lambeth on the 8th May 1888.
Their third son John was baptized on 11th 0ctober 1899 with his sister Jennie Elizabeth at the Parish church of St George the Martyr in Battersea. Baptismal records reveal that the Marshall family resided at 50 Wadhurst road in Battersea, also that William Marshall was employed as a labourer.
According to the 1901 Census, the Marshall family still resided at 50 Wadhurst Road in Battersea with their 3 sons and sister-in-law Minnie Spinks. William was still employed as a labourer. The 1901 Census also reveals that Jennie Elizabeth was residing with her grandmother Jane in Portsmouth.
In March 1908, Sarah Ann died.
At the time of the 1911 Census, the Marshall family now resided with his mother Jane at the Railway Tavern, in Fairfield street in Wandsworth.
John Charles’ service record is not available through Ancestry, he enlisted in the Suffolk Regiment at Whitehall and died at the age of 19 years on the 1st November 1918. He was buried at Mitcham Church Road Burial ground.
