Additional Information

Henry Matthew Mayberry who was the sixth child of Sarah Ann 0sbourn and George Robert Mayberry, he was born in 1884 at house number 1, 15 Brierley Street in Birmingham. His father George was originally an awl blade maker before becoming a pen maker.

His mother died in March 1888 followed by the death of his father George Robert in the second quarter of 1888. Henry’s brothers and sisters went to live with other surviving members of the Mayberry family.

In 1891, according to the Census, 8-year-old Henry and his brothers and sisters was residing with his 38-year-old uncle Albert Mayberry and his family at 15 Johanna Street, in Lambeth.
According to the 1901 Census, seventeen year old Henry was living with his paternal grandmother 68 year old Eliza at 123 Granby Gardens in Lambeth.

By 1911, 25-year-old Henry was living with his sister Emma and her husband at 227 Peabody Square in Southwark.

0n September 8th 1913, Henry married 26-year-old Sarah Lummis at St Mark’s Church in Camberwell. Parish records reveal that Henry was a marble sawyer by profession. The records reveal at the time of their marriage the couple were living at 59 Bagshott Street.

Henry and Sarah had one child, Henry Leonard who was born on the 26th June 1914 in Camberwell.

Henry and Sarah resided at 76 Cambridge Street in Camberwell. At The age of 32 years, Henry enlisted in the army on the 11th December 1915. Medical records on the 13th June 1916 reveal that Henry was 5 feet and 53/8 inch tall with a fresh complexion. He transferred to the Labour Corps on the 31st March 1917.

Henry died at 5.20pm from pneumonia on the 26th November at Holborn Military Hospital Western Road in Mitcham.

His wife Sarah was awarded a pension of 20 shillings per week.
