Additional Information

James Charles who was the second child of child of Emmie and James Ticehurst in the quarter of 1892. His 23-year-old father, James married 20-year-old Emma Jenkins on the 13th April 1879 at St John’s Church in Walworth.

The 1891 Census reveals that the Ticehurst family resided in three rooms at 9 Dartwell Road in Camberwell. Nine-year-old James lived with his parents and their four children. Fifty seven year old Emma Jenkins a needlewoman along with her 22-year-old-son also resided with her son-in-law and his family.

Service records indicate that James enlisted in the army in 1900 in the Queens Red Surrey Regiment.

0n 8th September 1906, 24-year-old James met and married 23-year-old Daisy Elizabeth Bayley in Newington Surrey.

The 1911 Census reveals that James was employed as an operative printer assistant while Daisy was employed as a blouse-sewing machinist. The couple had been married for 4 years with Daisy giving birth to three children but only one child had survived. The Ticehurst family resided at 34 Thurlow Street according to the Census.

Following the outbreak of war, James was recalled to active service at Whitehall in Middlesex as a sapper in the Royal Engineers before being transferred to the Labour Corps. His service record is not available through Ancestry. 36-year-old James died at Holborn Military Hospital in Mitcham and was buried at Mitcham Church Road burial ground. At the time of his death, the Ticehurst family resided at 19 Tramway Terrace in Mitcham.
