Hubert William, who was born in the last quarter of 1894 in Southwark, was the son of William Henry and Elizabeth Margaret Watts His parents William Henry had married Elizabeth Margaret Codes at St John the Evangelist church, Walworth, Southwark, on 29th April in 1892. Marriage records reveal that William Henry was employed as a cellerman and Elizabeth Margaret was employed as a milliner, the couple resided at 186 Walworth Road.
Hubert William was baptised at St Peters Church on the 3rd March 1895, by then the Watts family resided at 99 Summers Street.
The 1901 Census reveals the Watts family with their 2 children, Hubert aged 6 years and 2 month old Ivy Winifred resided at 128 Douglas buildings in Marshal Road; twenty nine year old William Henry was employed as a steel driller.
According to the 1911 Census, 16-year-old Hubert William was employed as a page to John Denney, a clergyman and his wife Mary Clara at 1 H the Mansions, Earls Court Road SW. The Denney couple employed a cook, a houseparlourmaid as a Hubert William a page.
Hubert Williams’s father died in the second quarter of 1916 at the age of 44 years.
Hubert William’s service record is not available through Ancestry; he enlisted in London, originally serving in the pay corps before transferring to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and died in Southwark on 21st 0ctober 1918 and is buried at Mitcham Church Road burial ground.
