Very little is known about the early life of Percy Morton Williams except that he was the son of Charles Joseph and Lily Morton Williams. He was born on the 27th July 1876 in Southwark.

Percy enlisted in the Royal Navy on the 27th July 1984 for 12 years. His service records reveal that by the age 0f 18 years he was only 5ft 3 inches tall with light brown hair and blue grey eyes and a fresh complexion. Percy’s first ship was HMS Impregnable. He served on various ships as an able seaman and on the 2nd 0ctober, 1901 was absent without leave for 21 days.

Marriage records reveal that on the 30th November 1907 at the age of 31 years, Percy met and married Lillie Harris at Tooting Parish Church. Percy was serving in the Royal Navy as an Able seaman.

The 1911 Census reveals that Percy and Lillie had been married for 3 years and resided at 27 Ancre Road in Merton. Percy was employed as an engineering labourer. Later that year on the 29th July 1911, Percy re-enrolled in the Navy at Portsmouth for another 5 years until 28th July 1916. Percy served on board HMS Victory at Southampton.

Naval records reveal that Percy died from chronic aortic disease on the 23rd June 1919; at Greenwich in Kent. He was interred at St Peter and St Paul’s Churchyard. Percy left his estate of £188 14s to his widow, Lillie Williams.
