Arthur was born in Mitcham in approx. 1899. His Father, William was a Carman and his mother, Louisa, sold flowers. There were six boys in the family, the only girl, Ada, had died as a baby.
Arthur and his brothers William, John, Joseph, Henry, and George were living at 44 Fountain Road Mitcham, though by the 1911 census Joseph had married and moved out.
Arthur enlisted in Wimbledon and joined the 1st Battalion of the Queens Royal East Surrey Regiment as Private G/25182.
He was reported “missing” on 17 June 1918 according to the War Office daily list 5594; “wounded and prisoner of war” on 29 August 1918 according to the War Office daily list 5656 and died on 14 September 1918.
