Victor was the eldest child of Ernest Edward and Elizabeth Lucy Jones. He was baptised on 23 July 1899 in St Matthew’s Church Croydon but the family were actually living in Bell Street, Reigate. Ernest was a master bootmaker and they went on to have two more children, Gladys and Alfred.
By the time of the 1911 census they were living in Wellesley Road, Croydon but later moved to 3 Langdale Avenue, Mitcham.
Victor enlisted in Horsham. He was a Private in the 7th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers and was wounded in the left knee in July 1918. He returned to duty and was killed in action on 29 September 1918. He is buried in the Proville British Cemetery. The family had his gravestone inscribed with “Years may pass away but the memory of our dear boy always remains”
