Walter who was the second son of John and Evangeline Birch, his father John had married 19-year-old Evangelina Cole at St Andrews Church in Kensington on the 19th January 1873.was born in Kensington in 1888. Walter and his sister Ada were both baptised at the Parish Church of St Augustine on the 15th February 1888, baptismal records reveal that the Birch family resided at 32 Southam Street
According to the 1891 Census, the Birch family resided at Adair Road in north Kensington. His father John was employed as a labourer and his mother Evangeline was employed as a laundress or washerwoman.

On the 7th June 1893, baptismal records for Charles and Emma reveal that the Birch family resided at 19 Edenham Street in Westbourne Park. The electoral register for 1914, places the Birch family at 23 Edenham Street.

According to the 1911 Census, Walter, although he had been married for 7 years, he is living at home with his parents and his brothers and sisters. Walter is a street trader by occupation.
Walter’s service record is not available through Ancestry. He enlisted at Shepherd’s Bush as a driver in the Royal Horse Artillery and was killed in action in France on the 22nd July 1916. He is commemorated at the Danzig Alley British Cemetery in Mametz.

Walter’s effects were left to his widow Catherine Pratt whom he married in January 1906
