Arthur Thomas Woodbridge was born to parents Arthur who worked as a Tram Driver and Flora (nee Whiting).

His parents had married in Chelsea in 1892 and Arthur was born in Battersea on 9th February 1895.

In 1901 the family were living at 71 Ingelow Road, Battersea and Arthur attended Telferscot Road Infants and junior school till the age of 9.

By 1911 the family were living at number 67A Ingelow Road, an address they remained living at for many years. Arthur aged 16 was now working as a Boy Messenger for the Post Office. His other siblings were William aged 13, Walter 9 and Winifred 4. Two other children born to his parents had died. Another sibling called George was born on 5th April 1911.

When war broke out Arthur enlisted for the London Regiment. Aged 19 years and 8 months he joined up with the 23rd Battalion B Company on 21st October 1914 in Clapham. He was given the service number 3291. Attestation papers gave his home address as 67a Ingelow Road, and Arthur was described as being 5ft 8in tall, chest measurement of 36in, with a fresh complexion, blue eyes and fair hair. His occupation was listed as a Jewellers Assistant.

Arthur embarked to France on 14th March 1915 with his regiment. After being wounded in Action whilst in France he returned to England and was admitted to the Royal Hospital on 4th October 1915 where he remained for seven days suffering from an Infection of the lung.

Arthur was discharged from military service on 18th December 1915, as he was deemed no longer physically fit for war service. He had serviced 1 year and 59 days.

Arthur died on the 24th of January 1916 aged 20. He was buried in Morden Cemetery, Garth Road and his name also appears on a Stone Cross memorial in the churchyard.
