Additional Information

Walter Neville was born in Battersea possibly in 1852 and resided in Fulham.

With the outbreak of W.W.1 he enlisted in Fulham on 26th November 1914 with the 2nd Battalion of the Border Regiment.

Walter could well have been an old soldier as he embarked to France that same day. By this time, he would have been aged about 62

Walter was then transferred back to the UK to the 3rd Battalion of the Border Regiment. This was a reserve Battalion, which remained in the UK throughout the war as a depot and training unit.

Walter died on 30th November 1915 at The Downs Sanatorium in Sutton from Tuberculosis.

From register of soldier's effects (serial numbers 238130 and 285299) Walter had no known next of kin, so money owing to him was never claimed or issued.

He was buried at Morden Cemetery, Garth Road on 4th December 1915 and his name also appears on a stone Cross memorial in the churchyard.

***** Not the same Walter Neville who was born in Greenwich 1879 and married to Lily Baulch. This one was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers with service number 33503 and died 16th February 1915.*****
